I am currently working on a pair of zōri that I have never seen before.

プラスチックを使わず、コットンだけで仕上げることはできないだろうか。

I am exploring whether it is possible to create them using only cotton, without any plastic.

頭の中では形になっていても、

実際の手作業は思うようにはいかず、

目の前の生地や糸とも、まだ「親友」とは言えない関係です。

Although the design exists in my mind, the actual process is not so simple.

The fabric and threads in front of me are not yet my “close friends.”

それでも、少しずつ向き合いながら。

Still, I continue to face them, little by little.

今日もまた、「成功」とは言えないけれど、

確かに前に進んでいる――そんな研究の日々です。

Today was not a complete success,

but I know I am moving forward.
